In preparation for its 10-year review with its accrediting agency, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Weatherford College officials are requesting feedback from residents in its service-area communities in Parker, Wise, Palo Pinto, Hood and Jack Counties. A survey asking for input identifying areas for student improvement is available on the College’s Web site, and interested respondents are asked to complete the short but comprehensive survey to assess WC’s success in meeting students’ needs.
“We consider feedback from our friends in the community to be valuable in our efforts to move forward in a positive direction,” said Dr. Arleen Atkins, dean of Institutional Effectiveness and facilitator of WC’s SACS preparation team. “A major component of the College’s reaffirmation of accreditation is the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The QEP is a campus-wide improvement plan dedicated to improving student learning. And we’re asking our communities’ assistance in identifying the area where our students could improve. This will help us identify the topic for our QEP.”
The survey asks respondents to assess skill areas with regard to enhancing student success following graduation/completion from Weatherford College, such as reading, writing, listening and interpersonal skills, as well computer literacy and global and multicultural awareness.
Dr. Molly Harris, WC speech instructor and QEP coordinator, said that the QEP is an integral parts of the SACS reaffirmation process and will allow the College to select a topic and develop and implement a pilot program before the SACS visiting time come to WC in September 2011.
“We’re really excited about the QEP process,” said Harris. “This is an opportunity for us to provide resources to an area that will directly impact student success both in the classroom and beyond.”
