Sue Walker, Justice of the Second Court of Appeals, will speak at the Bush Legacy Republican Women’s Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. Reservations are required. Cost of the meal and meeting is $15. To make a reservation, call 817-441-6290.
Justice Walker was raised in Amarillo, Texas. She graduated with high honors from the University of Texas in Austin in 1982 and from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1986. She is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (1993-present). Prior to her judicial service, Justice Walker was a solo practitioner practicing civil and criminal appellate law. She is a former adjunct professor of law at Texas Wesleyan School of Law where she taught Criminal Appellate Procedure. Justice Walker previously served as a law clerk and staff attorney for the Fifth District Court of Appeals.
Justice Walker currently serves on the Texas Supreme Court Task Force to Ensure Judicial Readiness in Times of Emergency and as a member of the Tarrant County Bar Foundation Grant Committee. She received the 2010 Judge Charles J. Murray Outstanding Jurist Award. Justice Walker previously served as President of the Eldon B. Mahon Inn of Court (2006-2007), as Counselor (2005-2006), and as Treasurer (2004-2005). In recognition of Justice Walker's long and meritorious service to the Inns of Court and to the legal profession, in 2009 the Eldon B. Mahon Inn of Court elected her to membership in the Serjeant's Inn of the Dallas and Fort Worth Inns of Court. Justice Walker is a National Science and Resource Judge; she was elected a Fellow in 2009 by the Advanced Science & Technology Resource Center in Washington, D.C. She is also a Fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation (2008 – present).
Justice Walker served the Tarrant County Bar Association as Second Vice President (1999-2000) and as Director (1997-1999). She served the Appellate Section of the Tarrant County Bar Association as Secretary (1996) and as Vice Chair (1997-1999). She is a member of the American Law Institute (2004-present), a member of the Appellate Practice and Advocacy Section of the State Bar of Texas, a member of the Appellate Section of the Tarrant County Bar Association, a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas (1993-present), a Charter and Sustaining Fellow of the Tarrant County Bar Foundation, an Emeritus member of the Eldon B. Mahon Chapter of the American Inns of Court, a member of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism, and a member of the American Judges Association.
