Aledo defeats Boswell 73-30

October 14, 2011 by Ken Hoover

Aledo wins the toss and will receive at the north end.

A 1st down on a 13 yard run gets this drive started off right. The big play follows on a 64 yard swing pass and run to Preston Bartley to the Boswell 4 yard line. Johnathan Gray takes it in from there and the Bearcats lead 7-0 after the Nevarez PAT.

Boswell returns the ensuing kickoff to their 17 yard line and fumbles on the first play. Aledo has another chance.

Matt Bishop has a nice run, then Gray scores again and now Aledo is up 14-0 with just over a minute gone in the game.

Boswell has a nice return to the Aledo 43 yard line and will start from there. An interception by Aledo's Dayne Davis gets Aledo the ball back.

Aledo scores on a Johnathan Gray touchdown on 3rd and 19 from the Boswell 40 yard line. PAT is good, Aledo 21-0, still in the 1st quarter, aided by two turnovers forced by the defense.

Boswell ball from their 40 due to to the kickoff going out of bounds. Aledo forces a Field Goal by Boswell from 47 yards. Boswell is on the Scoreboard but down 21-3.

Jonny Carter returns the kickoff to the 31 yard line. On the next play Johnathan Gray breaks a couple of tackles then outruns the defense for a 69 yard touchdown. 28- 3 Aledo.

A sack by Jaylen Hill on 3rd down forces Boswell to punt. Aledo takes over. A series of offensive penalties slows down Aledo's offense. A 3rd and long results in a touchdown pass to Michael Mann from the 42 yard line. Aledo leads 35-3.

Boswell has the ball, 1st and ten at their 25 yard line. They put together their best drive of the night. They score on a five yard pass and now trail Aledo by a score of 35-10.

Aledo opens with a first down by Preston Bartley. The next play is a touchdown pass from Matt Bishop to Parker Bradham. 42-10 Aledo.

Boswell turns the ball over again on a Jordan Mittie interception and Aledo only needs two plays, the second a touchdown run by Johnathan Gray for the score. Aledo 49-10.

After a Boswell drive stalls, the Bearcats get the ball back at their 44 yard line. Ben Jopling twice for a 1st down, then Johnathan Gray for another. Matthew Bishop keeps the ball and covers the final 33 yards for another Bearcat touchdown. It is now 56-10 Aledo in the 2nd quarter.

Boswell returns the kickoff out to their 24. Another 3 and out forces a punt.

Aledo opens with a beautiful 41 yard run by Caleb Frysinger. 3 plays later a touchdown pass to Frysinger is a touchdown on a 14 yard out route. His speed was the difference on both his big plays on the scoring drive. 63-10 Aledo.

A great tackle by Jordan Mittie on the kickoff and another by Gunner Johnson on the last play of the half, shows the focus of the Bearcats, even when they lead by 53 points. Nice job young men.

The entire offensive line should be recognized for the job they do week in and week out. This game is a great example of the work they do. 63 first half points speaks for itself. Great job "O Line!"

Second Half

Aledo kicks off and Boswell will take the ball from their 20 yard line to start the second half. Boswell makes a couple of quick 1st downs. Aledo's defense forces a punt, and Devan Watts takes the punt at the Aledo 26.

Aledo opens the drive with a Matt Bishop keeper for 20+ yards. Johnathan Gray covers the last 47 yards on a beautiful run. The PAT is good and Aledo now leads Boswell 70-10 in the 3rd quarter. Bryan Cox came out of the game with an injury on the long run. Bryan has proven himself as a sure handed receiver and a potent down field blocker this year. We are all hopeful it is not serious and he will be back soon with his teammates.

Boswell has the ball and is moving with it. They are now in Aledo territory and driving. A series of first downs has Boswell at the Aledo 15 with a 1st down. A 13 yard scoring pass gets Boswell another touchdown and it's now 70-17 after the PAT.

Aledo has the ball back and Pate Davis is now in at quarterback. Ben Jopling has replaced Johnathan Gray. Aledo is held and must punt the ball back to the Pioneers as the 3rd quarter is winding down. Boswell has nice a drive going.

A Boswell 1st and 10 at the Aledo 45 as the 4th quarter gets underway. They drive the length of the field and score on a 12 yard pass play. The PAT makes it 70-24 Aledo in the 4th quarter.

Aledo has the ball back deep in their own territory. Pate Davis gets the Bearcats 19 yards and a 1st down on a keeper, much better field position. Ben Jopling gets stripped and Boswell has another score on a fumble and run back. The snap is high and the PAT is no good. 70-30 Aledo, 6:42 left in the 4th quarter.

1st and 10 Aledo from their own 20. Ben Jopling carries for 41 yards to start the drive to the Pioneer 39 yard line. The drive is stopped and Chance Nevarez kicks a 34 yard field goal to give Aledo a 73-30 lead.

Aledo will run out the clock with the last possession of the game. 73-30 is the final.

Johnathan Gray had 242 yards on 14 carries and 6 touchdowns.

Dear Mr. Hoover & Mr. Keck:

Johnathan Gray entered the Aledo vs. Boswell game on Oct 14 with 992 total points in his career. His second TD against Boswell put him over the 1000 point mark, at 1004. With another 4 touchdowns later in the game, Johnathan now has 1028 career points.

Johnathan becomes only the third athlete in the history of high school football nationwide, and the first Texan, to score 1000 points. Second on the list is T.A. McLendon of Albemarle, NC with 1076 points (1999-2001). First is Michael Hart of Nedrow Onondaga, NY, with 1246 (2000-2003).*
