Sibyl was born October 4, 1919 to Jack Meazell and Zelma Boughton Meazell in Sulphur Springs.
She married Dee Lee Thomas on June 5, 1939, in Love County, Oklahoma. After Dee Lee went to Europe in 1942, Sibyl went to work as an electrical assembler at North American Aircraft building B-24 bombers for the war effort. She became one of the first female supervisors at North American. After the war, she and Dee Lee moved to East Texas, where he was a school administrator at Gaston, then west Rusk County schools.
Sibyl earned a B.A. degree from Stephen F. Austin State College, beginning in 1960 and graduated cum laude in 1965. She then taught high school and later sold real estate in Tyler. In retirement, Sibyl devoted herself to her family and her talents to a variety of crafts and art. She moved to Weatherford to be near family and then to Town Village Ridgmar in Fort Worth, where she resided for eight years until her death. "Mema" to family and extended family, Sibyl was a loving and cherished treasure whose independent spirit, good humored smile and sage wisdom will be greatly missed. While her earthly residence is over, she will always be a loving and inspiring presence in the hearts of her family and friends.
Sibyl was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Dee Lee Thomas, and her brother, Rush Meazell.
Survivors include her son, Dee Lee Thomas Jr. and "daughter-in-love," Janita Monaghan Thomas of Willow Park; grandchildren, Lindsey Thomas Lieneck and husband, Cristian Lieneck, of Austin, Jason "Jay" Thomas and wife, Allison Belota Thomas, of Mansfield and Jordan "Joey" Thomas and wife, Melissa Brown Thomas, of Austin; great-grandchildren, Emery and Eve Lieneck; sisters-in-law, Ann Thomas and Ruby Bulen of Lubbock; nephews, Michael, Pat, Chris and Rush Meazell; niece, Suzanne Drof; extended family, Susan and Bob Kroney, their daughters, Lauren, Pamela and K.D., and their families, Linda and Bruce Gilliam; special friend, Sara Wall of Boerne; and Sibyl's friends at Town Village Ridgmar.
