Weatherford FFA Chapter honored with 'Gold Award'

August 23, 2011 by Anonymous

Weatherford FFA
The State FFA Program of Texas is proud to announce that the Weatherford FFA chapter earned a spot as a “Gold Chapter” for the National Chapter Award which was presented at the 83rd Texas FFA Convention. Only 10 percent of state chapters, who apply, receive this designation each year.

The National Chapter Award covers three areas - Student Development, Chapter Development and Community Development. Each chapter is ranked in the three categories, based on an extensive award criterion.

Asked why she feels her chapter has experienced so much success, Weatherford FFA advisor Amber Jennings comments, " Members understand the time commitment and leadership skills it takes to be successful, and they step up to take on the leadership role to make a goal a reality. We also have the support from our school district and community whom believe in the future of agriculture, the love of learning, and success of students."

Another reason the Weatherford FFA Chapter has earned success is because FFA members are responsible for the planning and implementation of all facets of these events. In preparing for the award each year, the Weatherford FFA officers update the chapter’s Program of Activities, which outlines committees, their mission and objectives, along with events that will be implemented. Members also improve upon events and incorporate innovative activities that serve needs in the community. This is truly a student led initiative. The officer team has already re-written their Program of Activities for the 2011-2012 school year that will include community service projects and social media programs.

Ali Cantrell, Weatherford FFA President and District II Reporter noted, “There are numerous outstanding FFA chapters in Texas that are equally active. Our chapter understands the honor of being recognized."

The top chapters from Texas are submitted to the National FFA Organization. The competition for additional awards will be this fall at the 84th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. The FFA chapter makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
