The FBI Recently Launches Its Child ID App
August 17, 2011
Recently, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) launched its new Child ID App for the I-Phone. This application can be downloaded to your phone and provides a convenient place to electronically store photos and vital information about your children. You can show the pictures and provide physical identifiers such as height and weight to security or police officers immediately in the event a child goes missing. It also allows you to quickly and easily e-mail the information to authorities. The application also provides tips on keeping your children safe as well as specific guidance on what to do in those first few crucial hours after a child goes missing.
At this time, the app is only available to I-Phone users and can be downloaded for free from the App Store on iTunes. The FBI is currently working diligently to expand this tool to other types of mobile devices in the near future.
“This appears to be a very effective tool to relay information quickly in the unfortunate event that a child goes missing,” stated Chief Mike Manning, “The first few hours are the most crucial in successfully locating a missing child. We encourage everyone to consider using this application or a similar method to keep vital information ready to share.”
