Weatherford College Continuing Education department is kicking off a new series of welding classes at the Weatherford College Education Center Mineral Wells in September. These classes are designed for persons interested in learning to weld or in improving welding skills. Students may enter the series with any class.
The evening classes begin with “Advanced ARC Welding,” a 32-hour course covering advanced principles of welding with emphasis on special processes and special needs of students. This course is followed by “Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welding” (SMAW), which covers basic maintenance and structural welding techniques and applications.
The final course scheduled for fall is “Introduction to Welding,” which introduces equipment used in oxy-fuel and arc welding and includes cutting of ferrous metals. This class emphasizes welding and cutting safety and basic welding processes and is 48 hours in length.
These are the first three of the 10-course series that leads to a Basic Welding Technology Certificate through the department of Workforce and Continuing Education. The series will resume in January 2012.
All classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6-9:15 p.m. Students must supply project materials, helmet, gloves and safety goggles. Cost varies depending on the length of the class.
