Fall vegetable planting program

July 18, 2011 by Anonymous

Event Date:
Tue, 07/26/2011 - 6:30pm

For a successful fall garden, you can’t wait until fall to get started. With the lack of spring rains and the rapid warm up with extended summer heat, many spring planted vegetable gardens have not performed very well this year, said Jon Green, County Extension Agent - Ag. However, there is still hope for a plentiful garden this fall if gardeners prepare soon. Many vegetables actually perform better under our fall weather conditions, Green added.

To learn more about this topic, the Parker County office of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service is offering a Fall Vegetable Gardening Seminar at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 at the Parker County Agriculture Services Center Meeting Room, 604 North Main in Weatherford. Cost of the seminar is $10 per person, payable at the door.

Steve Chaney, Extension Horticulture Agent from Tarrant County, will discuss soil preparation and proper soil amendment recommendations, water recommendations and water conservation practices, fall vegetable selections, and ways to manage and reduce various gardening problems that may be encountered. Fall gardening planting schedules will be available to those attending.
