April 20, 2010 by Tony Eierdam

Ladycats shoot 351 to finish in 4th place at regional tournament

Coming into Tuesday's final round at the Region I golf tournament in San Angelo, the Aledo Bearcats needed to make up two strokes to have a chance to be one of two qualifiers for the Class 4A state tournament.

However, after shooting 306 in the opening round, the Bearcats came back today at Quicksand Golf Course and finished with a 313 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 619 that left them in third place behind runner-up Arlington Heights (614) and tournament-winner Wolfforth Frenship (597). Both Heights and Frenship will advance to the state tournament in Austin.

Taylor Mihok led the Bearcats with a 77, with Jeffrey Merrell and Chilton McKnight each carding a 78. Dillon Trimmer finished with an 80 and Sean Shelton had an 87. Also, AHS medalist Brandon Wilkins shot an 84.

The Ladycats rebounded from a first-round score of 371 and finished with a total of 351 in the second round to finish fourth overall with a two-day total of 722. The 36-hole tournament was played at Bentwood Country Club in San Angelo.

Arlington Heights shot 672 (335-337) to win the girls tournament, with Mansfield Legacy finishing second with a 690 (342-348) as both teams qualify for the state tournament in Austin.

Jenny France led the Ladycats with an 86, with District 6-4A champion Alicia Stacy and Chelsea Mercer each carding an 87. Haley Gann finished with a 91, with Jesse Bearden shooting 94.
