Weatherford ISD superintendent announces intent to retire at Thursday's meeting

Weatherford ISD Superintendent Dr. Deborah Cron announced her intent to retire in December at Thursday’s School Board Meeting in the District Services Building Boardroom.
Dr. Cron’s message came as a surprise as she informed the Board of Trustees in Executive Session at the end of the meeting. Later, in a special cabinet meeting, she told her central office and campus administrators.
“I love this District, and I so very much enjoy working with the educators and staff members who comprise our team,” she said in an e-mail to her staff members late Thursday evening. “We have made tremendous gains in student success over the past 10 years, and I thank you for the work you do each and every day to ensure our students are learning.”
Dr. Cron also said the District will remain in good hands because of the strong leadership of its Board members.
“Our Board of Trustees is truly the best in the state,” she added, “and each member is focused on doing what is right for the education of our community’s children.”
Since 2001, under Dr. Cron’s leadership, the District has seen tremendous gains in student TAKS scores in the areas of reading, mathematics, writing, social studies, and science.
She also led the District’s implementation of the Baldrige criteria, a continuous improvement model designed to help businesses and organizations grow and become more effective and efficient. In April, Weatherford ISD was named a 2011 recipient for the Texas Award for Performance Excellence by the Quality Texas Foundation – the state’s equivalent to the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
Members of the Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees will be conducting a superintendent search in the near future.
