Texas AgriLife Extension of Parker County will host a Food Preservation Workshop on Thursday, June 23, 2011. The class will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will cost $20.00. This included canning materials, recipes and lunch. The workshop will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center that is located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
The workshop will be helpful for beginners and those who need a refresher course in the art and science of food preservation. For those who are fearful of preserving food the workshop will have information about the “how and why” of preserving food at home and will include hands on activities that include canning vegetables and making salsa. There will be a focus on canning safety, types of equipment to us and proper canning methods.
Participants who have pressure canners or water bath canners are asked to bring their canners in case they are needed for the workshop. Canner gauge testing will be available for those who need theirs tested as well.
Registration is requested by Tuesday, June 21, 2011 by calling 817-598-6168.
