Aledo senior shortstop Lyndi Samuelson smashed three hits and scored two runs and senior pitcher Whitney Canion allowed two hits and fired nine strikeouts to lead the Ladycats to a 5-0 victory over Saginaw Thursday night in a Region I quarterfinal game at Mansfield Summit High School.
The Ladycats broke open a tight game with four runs in the top of the fourth inning helped by a double each by senior outfielder Katie Denny and Samuelson.
Canion retired 11 of the last 12 Saginaw batters to seal the win.
The Ladycats advance to the regional semifinals where they will face the winner of the Frenship/Big Spring series (to be played Friday and Saturday, May 9-10).
