Susan Nelson, STACI teacher at Mary Martin Elementary, was awarded the Tarleton Star Award on April 22 from Tarleton State University in Stephenville. She was also recognized at the May 12 Weatherford ISD Board meeting.
The Tarleton Star Award was instituted this year to recognize TSU graduates in the field for their outstanding teaching as well as those who may be outstanding pre-service teachers. The award is also part of the Effective Schools Project and is sponsored by The Journal of Effective Schools Project.
Susan Nelson was one of only five recipients this year, according to a release by TSU. She received a commemorative pin with a letter, and she will be featured in the 2011 edition of the Journal along with the other four recipients. Any TSU graduate may be nominated by his/her principal, other administrator, TSU faculty and/or field experience supervisor for outstanding service to the children in the Texas public schools.
"Dr. James Gentry and I believe Susan exemplifies this award because of her dedication and seemingly endless hard work for the children in her class," TSU Professor and Director of Educational Diagnosticians Dr. Pam Lindsey-Glenn said. "We are Tarleton Proud of her!"
