Aledo senior pitcher Ryan Talley struck out 11 in six innings and senior reliever Austin Vassberg closed out the seventh with a pair of strikeouts to lead the Bearcats to a 5-1 victory over Brewer Tuesday night in a District 6-4A contest at Brewer.
The win raises the first-place Bearcats' district mark to 7-1. Aledo will continue 6-4A play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 9, at home against Boswell.
The Bearcats scored a run in the first, second and fourth innings for a 3-0 lead. Aledo put the game away in the sixth when Hayden Hall smashed a triple to score Rylan Riney and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Blake Dietrich.
Nils Smith led the Bearcats with three singles, with Zack Scott adding a pair of base hits. Lawton Rinker also recorded an RBI double, with Sean O'Donnell and Scott each driving in a run.
Aledo sophomore pitcher Kacie Brann struck out nine while allowing just two walks and a pair of hits to lead the Ladycats to a four-run win over Brewer Tuesday night in a District 6-4A game at Brewer.
The win elevates the Ladycats' district record to 7-2. Aledo will have chance to grab a share of the 6-4A lead Friday when the Ladycats host first-place Boswell. The first pitch will be at 7 p.m. at Ladycat Field.
Before Friday's game a monument honoring the 2008 Ladycats state champion softball team will be unveiled, with several members of the '08 team to be on hand for the ceremony.
The Ladycats scored a run each in the first, second and third innings, and closed the scoring in the seventh on a solo home run over the centerfield fence by junior right fielder Carolyn Clayton.
Aubri Jordan led the Ladycats with four base hits. Clayton and Morgan Farley each swatted three hits to lead Aledo. In addition to the round-tripper, Clayton also registered a single and double, while Farley swatted two doubles and a single.
