Pitching dominance, clutch hitting earn Lady Roos Regional Quarterfinal playoff berth

Weatherford High School sophomore Kelsey Horton's three-run homer in the sixth inning broke a scoreless affair and helped Weatherford's Lady Roos softball team go on to beat El Paso Hanks, 5-0, Friday in Odessa.

With the win, the Lady Roos advance to the Region I-5A Quarterfinal Playoff Round where they will face Odessa Permian Friday in a one-game series at Wells Field on the campus ofAbilene Christian University beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Senior ace pitcher Jordan Wallace continued her dominance on the mound striking out 19-of-21 El Paso Hanks batters. She now has 36 strikeouts in only 14 playoff innings. Also, she increased her season strikeout total to 334.

Offensively, the Lady Roos had 12 hits against El Paso Hanks. Horton's home run was set up following a single by Ashlyn Wren and Ali Gillard advancing to first after being hit by a pitch.
