Aledo sophomore pitcher Kacie Brann allowed three hits and a walk while striking out nine to lead the Ladycats to a 5-1 victory over Birdville Friday night in District 6-4A action at Ladycat Field.
The win - the Ladycats fifth in a row - raises Aledo's 6-4A record to 6-2 and puts AHS in a second-place tie with Birdville. Boswell leads the district with a 7-1 mark.
With the victory in the circle, Brann raised her district record to an unblemished 5-0.
AHS will continue district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Brewer.
The Ladycats broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The big hit in the frame was a two-RBI single by senior first baseman Rebecca Phillips that drove in senior second baseman Kendall Kizer and junior catcher Shelby Stockard.
Aledo added two more runs in the fifth frame with another big hit to extend their lead to 4-0.
Junior third baseman Morgan Farley launched a towering shot off the center field fence that drove in senior left fielder Jordan Simons and senior centerfielder Aubri Jordan.
Birdville scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Ladycats' lead to 4-1.
The Ladycats closed the scoring in the bottom of the sixth when junior shortstop Lauren Durham scored on an error.
Aledo senior pitchers Calvin Loftis and Austin Vassberg combined to help the Bearcats defeat Birdville, 4-2, Friday night in a District 6-4A contest at Birdville.
Loftis (4-0 in 6-4A) was the winning pitcher with 5 2/3 innings of work. Vassberg pitched the last 1 1/3 innings, striking out all four batters he faced while earning the save.
The win lifts the Bearcats' 6-4A mark to 6-1 and puts AHS in a first-place tie with Birdville, although Aledo holds the tiebreaker.
The Bearcats will continue district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Brewer.
Aledo received a pair of RBIs from Rylan Riney, who drove in a run on a fielder's choice and a double.
Nils Smith drove in a run with a single and Blake Dietrich also had an RBI single.
