Police Dept. Open House

May 3, 2011 by Randy Keck

Event Date:
Mon, 05/16/2011 - 4:30pm - 7:00pm

The Hudson Oaks Police Dept. will host an open house from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 16 to celebrate National Police Week. The open house will be at the Public Safety Building (150 N. Oakridge Drive).

The entire Hudson Oaks community is invited to come enjoy free hot dogs and drinks while they take advantage of this opportunity to tour the Public Safety Building and learn about the various ways the police department serves the residents and businesses in Hudson Oaks.

The tour of the H.O.P.D. facility will provide insight into the department’s Investigations, Patrol, Property, Armory, Narcotics, and Emergency Operations functions. Visitors will also be able to get a first‐hand look at police vehicles and equipment, and there will be a bounce house on site for the kids.

This year, the Hudson Oaks Police Department hopes to raise awareness of the community’s new animal care and control services. The staff of the Weatherford‐Parker County Animal Shelter will be on hand to meet residents and answer questions. Hudson Oaks residents are encouraged to bring their family pets because shelter staff will be microchipping animals at a reduced $20 rate per animal. Pets must be in carriers or on leashes to ensure everyone’s safety. Parker Paws will also be on hand with their mobile adoption unit so families will have a chance to find new furry friends and give them loving homes.

Returning for this year’s Open House event will be the Simulated Impaired DriviNg Experience (S.I.D.N.E.). S.I.D.N.E. provides participants of all ages a chance to drive a special go‐cart‐style vehicle that simulates the effects of impaired driving. This educational tool lets drivers have a true hands‐on experience to help them learn about the dangers of driving while intoxicated or distracted by things like phones and texting. The S.I.D.N.E. simulator is available through an interlocal agreement between the cities of Hudson Oaks and Azle.

National Police Week is an opportunity for public safety departments around the country to raise awareness about the services they provide to local communities. National Police Week occurs annually during the week that includes May 15, which is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day. During the Open House event, the H.O.P.D. will hold a special ceremony honoring those officers who have sacrificed their lives in service to their communities.
