Susan Nelson, MME STACI teacher at Mary Martin Elementary, was awarded the Tarleton Star Award on April 22 from Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
The Tarleton Star Award was instituted this year to recognize TSU graduates in the field for their outstanding teaching as well as those who may be outstanding pre-service teachers. The award is also part of the Effective Schools Project and is sponsored by The Journal of Effective Schools Project.
Nelson was one of only five recipients this year, according to a release by TSU. She received a commemorative pin with a letter, and she will be featured in the 2011 edition of the Journal along with the other four recipients.
Any TSU graduate may be nominated by his/her principal, other administrator, TSU faculaty and/or field experience supervisor for outstanding service to the children in the Texas public schools.
"Dr. James Gentry and I believe Susan exemplies this award because of her dedication and seemingly endless hard work for the children in her class," Dr. Pam Lindsey-Glenn, TSU Professor and Director of Educational Diagnosticians said. "We are Tarleton Proud of her!"
