Midlothian broke a scoreless first-half tie with two goals in the second half and held back a late Aledo charge as the Panthers defeated the Bearcats, 2-1, Tuesday night in a Class 4A regional quarterfinals soccer match at Northwest ISD Stadium.
The Bearcats finish the season with a 22-2-1 record.
The game was scoreless in the first half as AHS poured on the offensive pressure with several scoring opportunies.
But in the second half, Midlothian scored goals at the 21:31 and 17:44 marks to take a 2-0 lead.
Aledo had a pair of excellent scoring chances in the second half just three minutes apart. A header by Yusef Marwan flew over the cross bar by six inches, and a close-range shot by Marwan three minutes later hit the crossbar as the Panthers cleared out the rebound.
Aledo cut the lead to 2-1 with 1:02 remaining to play when Thomas Davis scored on a shot from inside the box after a throw-in by Matt Nickell.
But Midlothian managed to control the ball the rest of the game to escape with a one-goal win.
