Status of Women luncheon

April 26, 2011 by Randy Keck

Event Date:
Wed, 05/04/2011 - 11:30am - 1:00pm

A limited number of tickets still are available to the annual Status of Women Luncheon, held by the Zonta Club of Parker County. The May 4 event will highlight the Club’s achievements through the year, and club members also will recognize scholarship recipients, as well as honor the ZCPC Clubwoman of the Year.

This year, ZCPC awarded 10 Parker County women $9,000 total in academic scholarships.

“We are very proud that we are able to help these women achieve their educational goals,” said Elizabeth McGee, ZCPC president. “Future nurses, business women and teachers will have all or a good part of their fall semester’s tuition and fees paid now. That’s what our Casino Night is all about – raising money for these scholarships and for our other local and international service projects.

“This would be a good opportunity to thank all of the businesses and individuals who supported our Casino Night by donating items and services for the auctions and money though sponsorships and ticket purchases. It was a great success, and we can’t thank our supporters enough for their generosity, especially in these economic times,”  said McGee.

The public is invited to attend the luncheon that will feature a keynote address by well-known motivational speaker and trainer Kimberly Lewis Hankins. Her address, “In the Company of Women,” is a discussion of how women nurture and support each other to achieve great things. Kim reveals how many of the lessons from her own childhood are significant to how women come into their own greatness.

As a master speaker and trainer, Kim has effectively coached and trained several thousand employees and managers from just about every industry. She has taught at the highest levels in such well-respected companies as Texas Instruments, Hewlett Packard, United States Treasury, Target Corporation, Ericsson and Fort Worth's own Jacobs Engineering and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. Kim's background as a clinical therapist has served her well in the corporate world, her insight into how people think provides a unique ability to motivate employees well beyond what is typically expected. She left the direct services field to manage a $3.5 million project for pregnant women and their children at risk for HIV/AIDS in New York and Philadelphia. She hired and trained outreach workers to go into crack houses and heroin dens to gain access to women at greatest risk.

Luncheon tickets are available by calling Linda Bagwell, ZCPC vice president, at 817-598-6274, or e-mail lbagwell@wc.edu: $20 each or tables of 8 are available for $160. The luncheon will be held at the Weatherford College Alkek Fine Arts Center, 225 College Park, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
