The Aledo Ladycats basketball team will play host in the annual Moritz Holiday Classic at Aledo High School today (Thursday, Dec. 27) when they take on Irving Nimitz in the first round.
The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Win or lose, the Ladycats would play against the Brock (14-5) vs. Azle (2-8) winner.
Among the other teams scheduled to play are District 8-4A rival Everman.
Other teams include Denton Guyer (2-10), Haltom (12-5) and White Settlement Brewer (0-9).
Aledo is coming off a huge road win against Everman, 69-52, and improved to 3-1 in district.
They have beaten Mineral Wells and Stephenville with their only loss to Crowley (2-0) at home in the second district game.
The boys are not scheduled to play in the Moritz as they have done in the past. Instead, they will play in the Sherman Holiday Tournament.
The Bearcats play Dripping Springs (from Austin area) in a Thursday, Dec. 27 game at noon and win or lose would play host Sherman (10-5) in the next round.
With Aledo in a tournament played so far east, they could play unknown foes like McKinney North (9-5), South Garland (11-5), perhaps Crespi Carmelite of California.
