Update on fires in Palo Pinto County

The fires that continue to ravage Palo Pinto County have now consumed 148,000 acres, according to Mark Ingebretson, Editor of the Lake Country Sun.

Ingebretson said the fire line now covers 200 square miles.

There are an estimated 750 people fighting the fire from departments all over the country, including personnel from local fire departments.

Locally, collections to assist firefighters are being taken by the Aledo Church of Christ, Aledo United Methodist Church and the East Parker County Chamber of Commerce. Items requested include:

Dust masks
Lip balm (Carmex or Chapstick-style)
Eye drops
Anti-histamines or allergy medicines
Ibuprofin or Naproxin
Gatorade (powdered and bottled)
Water
Nutritious snacks
High-protein nutrition bars
Fruit
Sunscreen, especially 50+ SPF
Wet wipes & hand sanitizer
Garbage bags
Ice/coolers
