The Weatherford FFA students traveled to Texas A&M Commerce on Thursday to compete in the Area 5 Judging Contests. In the state of Texas, most schools have an Agriculture Department and are heavenly involved in the student contests sponsored by the state FFA student organization. Most competitions have individual contests and team contests. Weatherford FFA students were successful again as 2 teams will advance to the state contest in: Dairy Foods, and Poultry. The students who competed in each contest and their results are to be congratulated for their accomplishments and we wish them success in the state contest.
The Dairy Foods contest had 140 students who competed. Weatherford students were: Courtney Hale placed 4th, Amanda Morris 13th, Tara Murray 14th, and Skylor Dobbs 38th. The team Placed 2nd in area. They will advance to the state contest April 21 at Tarleton State University.
The Poultry contest had 123 students who competed. Weatherford students had three of its members finish in the top 10 high individual scores: Tyler Pratt 2nd, Rachel Bedinger 8th, and Kaden Fowler 10th, and Reed Parker 55th. The team placed 3rd in area, securing a place at the state contests to be held at Texas A&M University in May.
Other contests where WHS FFA students competed were Floriculture. A total of 83 students competed from North Texas. Weatherford students were: Halle Grand 21st, Haley Farmer 26th, and Maurine Massey 30th. The team placed 8th in area, barely missing out a chance to advance. Dairy Cattle contest had 169 students compete. Weatherford students were: Tyra Brunz, Mitchell Gay, Allison Cox, and Taylor Travis. Livestock Evaluation contest had 80 teams compete. Weatherford students placed 28th in Area. Members are Aidan Pool, Emily Albert, Spencer Stubblefield, and Ashley Kemp. The Nursery and Landscape Team placed 8th in area, narrowly missing qualifying to compete at state. Team members include Hannah Penney, Kaleigh Parker, Mindy Miles, and Devan Webb.
