Thomas Davis scored three goals to lead the Aledo Bearcats to a convincing 5-1 victory over Denton Ryan Thursday night in a Class 4A bi-district soccer playoff match at Northwest ISD Stadium.
The win advances the Bearcats to the area round where they will face Wichita Falls High School.
Following the contest the Bearcats lost a "home and home" coin flip, meaning they will travel to Wichita Falls and face the Coyotes at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (March 23) at Wichita Falls ISD Memorial Stadium.
Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Davis scored his first two goals in the first half after Matt Nickell opened the scoring by converting a penalty kick from the box just 38 seconds into the match.
With 21:27 remaining in the opening half, Davis extended the Bearcats' lead to 2-0 on a 12-yard shot from the left side off a feed from Nickell.
Just 52 later, Davis struck again, this time from 20 yards out off a rebound for a 3-0 lead, which it remained at the half.
Denton Ryan cut the lead to 3-1 with 28:35 left in the second half on a penalty kick.
But Aledo got the goal back almost seven minutes later when Davis completed his "hat trick" on a spectacular goal. Davis was 43 yards out when he noticed the Ryan keeper off line and well in front of the net, and the Bearcats leading scorer lofted a shot to the back of the net for a 4-1 advantage.
Aledo closed the scoring with 20:01 left to play when Shane Cardwell fed Kyle Underwood, who scored on a breakaway.
Guyer broke open a close match with three goals in the second half on its way to a 4-0 win over the Aledo Ladycats Thursday night in Class 4A bi-district match at Northwest ISD Stadium.
With the win, Guyer will advance to the area round and face Wichita Falls Rider.
Guyer used a strong defense to keep the Ladycats away from the front of the net, stopping Aledo three times on corner kicks and keeping AHS from executing headers and rebounds.
Guyer received scoring from four different players as Tess Graham, Ashley Graf, Lindsy Schafer and Paige Bucklew each scored a goal.
