Aledo senior pitcher Ryan Talley allowed one hit and struck out 13 to lead the state-ranked No. 8 Bearcats to a 6-0 victory over Boswell Wednesday night in a District 6-4A contest at Boswell.
The Bearcats will take a break from district play and will face Midlothian at 3 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, March 18) at The Ballpark In Arlington. Admission is free.
Aledo will continue district play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Azle.
Talley - who took a no-hitter into the seventh inning - allowed seven walks and hit one batter. He got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth with a strikeout. Talley finished off four of seven frames with inning-ending strikeouts.
Boswell's Gene Ramirez broke up the no-hitter with a clean, line-drive single to left field with no outs and a runner on in the seventh. However, Talley retired the next three batters to preserve the shutout.
Aledo scored three runs in the opening frame to take a 3-0 lead by taking advantage of a pair of Boswell errors to go along with an extra-base hit. The big hit in the inning was a RBI double by senior left fielder Nils Smith.
The Bearcats closed the scoring with three runs in the fourth. Senior first baseman Asher Zeeb drove in a run with a bunt single, and Sean O'Donnell scored from third base later in the frame on a wild pitch.
The final AHS run was scored when Hayden Hall hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Zeeb.
