Aledo sluggers Carolyn Clayton and Morgan Farley combined for six RBI and pitcher Sarah Simpson threw a six-hit shutout to lead the Ladycats to an 8-0 victory over Brewer Wednesday night in District 6-4A action at the AHS softball field.
The win evens the Ladycats' district record to 1-1, while Brewer falls to 0-2. Aledo will continue district play at 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Boswell.
Clayton ripped a two-run home run over the centerfield fence in the opening frame, and in the fifth inning smashed a triple to center to drive in another run.
Farley swatted a pair of doubles, including a two-bagger in the third with the bases loaded that drove in three runs.
Simpson, who is 1-1 in 6-4A play, scattered six hits with just one walk while recording five strikeouts.
Clayton's blast in the opening frame gave the Ladycats an early 2-0 lead. The Ladycats added a run in the third for a 3-0 lead when Jordan Simons - who had reached on an infield single - scored after a double-play ground out.
Paced by Farley's three-run double in the third, the Ladycats scored four runs to take a 7-0 lead. Simons drove in the other run on a ground out that plated Lauren Durham, who also swatted a pair of hits, including a double.
Aledo closed the scoring in the fifth when Aubri Jordan reached on an infield hit and scored after Clayton's triple.
