AHS Ladycats vs. Springtown at Aledo;
Varsity, 6:30 p.m.
JV, 5 p.m.
9th, 5 p.m.
I am writing this message to let our subscribers know that you will probably not receive your paper in the mail this week until Saturday.
The United States Post Office in Aledo has implemented a new system that caught us off guard this week. I was informed two weeks ago that under the new system, we would not be able to mail our papers after 4 p.m. on Thursday. When our papers arrived at the post office at about 3:30 yesterday, the post office refused to accept the mailing because it was after 3 p.m.
This is yet another in a growing list of new procedures over the last year that make one thing entirely clear: the post office does not want our business.
The same thing has been happening all over. Our friends in Granbury at the Hood County News experienced the same thing a few months ago, and their publisher took the step of contracting with another company to provide home delivery. We are currently in negotiations to determine if that option is viable for us as well.
Over the last few weeks the mailing has been a day late more often than not. In the vast majority of those cases, it would not have been late under the post office procedures we followed for the previous 15 years.
Our goal is to get you your Friday paper on Friday. We apologize once again for the delay.
