AHS Ladycats vs. Springtown at Aledo;
Varsity, 6:30 p.m.
JV, 5 p.m.
9th, 5 p.m.
Calvin Loftis allowed just three hits in 6 2/3 innings and Ryan Talley faced one batter for the save as the pitching pair led the Aledo Bearcats to a 2-1 victory over Brewer Tuesday night at Bearcat Field in the District 6-4A opener.
Loftis earned the win on the hill, allowing one run and five walks while striking out seven.
Talley snuffed out a potential Brewer rally with a strikeout as the Bears had the tying and go-ahead runs on base with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Bearcats will play next at the Western Hills tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday, March 11-13.
Aledo got on the board when Matthew Bishop drove in Cody Smith - who had reached on an error - with an infield single in the second to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Hayden Hall reached second on a single to right field followed by an error on the play.
Hall advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lawton Rinker to give the Bearcats a 2-0 advantage.
Brewer's lone run came in the sixth when Craig Keeton scored after a triple from Zane Pruett, who also took the loss on the hill for the Bears.
