WHS Student Catches Calf in Scramble Competition at San Antonio Livestock Show

February 24, 2011 by Anonymous

Weatherford FFA member Ali Cantrell was successful in her attempt to catch a wild 500-pound calf recently at the San Antonio Rodeo.

In the Calf Scramble event, 24 determined 4-H and FFA members competed with one another to catch, halter, and coax across the winner's line.

There were only 12 calves to catch and the winners received an $800 certificate to purchase a breeding animal with the intent to raise and return to the stock show the following year.

In addition, there are multiple scholarship opportunities available in events such as scrapbook and sponsor correspondence for calf scramble students to participate. Scholarships are awarded in amounts from $1,000 to $10,000. Weatherford FFA members have done well this school year in the competitions during the fall and winter competitions, and they look forward to the spring competitions.

Any student who enjoys competition would enjoy being a FFA student. The possibilities are endless. Enrollment into the Agriculture program for next school year is taking place now. Contact the school counselor or one of the Agriculture teachers.Ali CantrellAli Cantrell
