AHS Ladycats vs. Springtown at Aledo;
Varsity, 6:30 p.m.
JV, 5 p.m.
9th, 5 p.m.
Coming into Friday night’s contest against the Birdville Hawks, Aledo was tied for third place in the district. A win by the Bearcats would have given the Bearcats the tie-breaker edge over Birdville for a playoff spot. The Hawks took advantage of their home court to win 55-51 and just about eliminate Aledo from the playoffs.
Aledo fell behind early as Birdville made five three-pointers and led by ten after the first quarter. The Aledo defense kicked in and only allowed the Hawks 14 points in the second and third quarters. On the offensive end, Danny Glass was on fire all night finishing with 21 points.
Taylor Johnson and Robbie Sprier went to work offensively in the third quarter. Both players were shut out in the first half. Back to back three’s by Johnson and Sprier gave Aledo a six point lead with 1:15 to play in the third quarter. The Bearcats went cold scoring only 11 points the rest of the game.
Birdville used a zone defense to cut off Matt Bishop’s ability to drive the lane and either pass or shoot. Coach Steve Smith used some excellent gamesmanship in drawing the Hawks out of the zone. The shots just did not fall of Aledo.
