A school bus transporting elementary students from Bose Ikard Elementary was involved in a rear-end collision Thursday afternoon while attempting to make a routine stop off Fort Worth Highway.
The driver of the SUV who struck the back of the school bus was transported to a hospital, as were two students who were preparing to exit the bus at the time of the accident.
Weatherford ISD administrators said the impact of the collision forced the bus about 15-20 feet forward. Also, the driver of the school bus saw what she thought was smoke and immediately implemented emergency evacuation procedures.
“I applaud the quick actions taken by the Durham School Services bus driver to ensure the safety of the students who were traveling home from school,” Weatherford ISD Superintendent Dr. Deborah Cron said. “Durham School Services partners with our school district to provide on-going training in safety and security.”
All students were examined by Emergency Medical Technicians and were released with the exception of the two children who were transported to the hospital as precautionary measures.
Both the Weatherford Police Department and Weatherford ISD administrators will continue to work closely as further investigation continues.
