Ladycats Swat Lady Hornets 80-38…Games Canceled at Boswell Tonight

February 9, 2011 by Steve Keck

Bearcats Still in Third Place in District Despite Loss

Ladycats 80 Azle 38

The Aledo Ladycats clinched the District Championship long ago, but they will have to wait to find out their playoff match-ups. The Bearcats buried 17 three-pointers by eight different Ladycats and played another game with suffocating defense to defeat the Azle Lady Hornets 80-38.

The Ladycats were struggling offensively at the beginning of the game. Alana Martin stole the ball and made a lay-up to put Aledo up by four with 4:35 to play in the first quarter. The basket started a 13-0 run buy the Ladycats and they never looked back. Logan Mittie led all scorers with 22 and Mallory Powell added 20.

Please check this website for Ladycat playoff information. The Boswell game has tentatively been rescheduled for Thursday.

Aledo fought hard and played District Champion and undefeated Azle a run for their money in the first half. The Bearcats were down by eight on a Drew Charles steal and bucket with exactly 3:00 left in the half. Danny Glass scored a bucket to cut the lead to six. Robbie Sprier made two three-pointers and Taylor Johnson made a shot just short of the three point line to send the Bearcats into the locker room down by two 30-38.

Azle’s 6’ 8” Post Jake Zuihof spent most of the first half on the bench in foul trouble. He returned fresh in the third quarter and began dominating the game on both ends of the court. In the third quarter, a Matt Bishop bucket cut the Azle lead to seven. Zuihof came right back with a dunk and Charles gave Azle its first double digit lead with 2:29 left.

Mark Ryles hit a three and cut the lead to 11 after Azle built a 14 point lead. The Bearcats ended the third quarter down by ten 52-42.

The Hornets were laying in wait for the Bearcats after an easy 80-48 victory over Timber Creek. Aledo had to fight to the finish to defeat Byron Nelson. The rested Hornets dominated the fatigued Bearcats with a 19-7 fourth quarter.
