The Aledo Ladycats ran their season record to 27-2 and their district mark to a perfect 12-0. It was the defense fueling the offense again as the Ladycats allowed only two points to the Bobcats in the first and fourth quarters combined.
Six different Ladycats made three pointers as the team buried ten three’s for the game. Logan Mittie scored 24, Alana Martin added 21 and Mallory Powell added 16. The 21 points for Martin were her season high.
The Ladycats meet the Azle Hornets tonight at home. The game begins at 6 p.m. Aledo will close out their district season at Boswell High School on Wednesday.
Bi-district games begin Monday, Feb. 14 at a time and site to be determined.
Due to the weather, the playoff coverage will miss the deadline for the Friday paper. Please check this website for coverage.

The Bearcats started district play at 1-4 and now have won five in a row to take command of third place in district. The win against the Bobcats was the third straight victory over a team ahead of them or tied in the standings. The three teams are Birdville, Springtown (tie) and Byron Nelson. The Bobcats were running away with second place in district. Aledo is the only team to beat them besides district leading and undefeated Azle.
Aledo never trailed in this contest, although the Bobcats did make a run in the fourth quarter. The game was tied at 42-42 with 2:09 to play. Todd Christian, Danny Glass and Matt Bishop all scored key points in the last two minutes. Bishop’s free throw put the Bearcats ahead 47-44 with only: 16 left. Byron Nelson’s desperation three at the buzzer fell well short.
Matt Bishop led the way with 21. Pierce Gentry scored four buckets. Three of his four came on assists from Bishop (two) and Glass. Gentry finished with nine. Todd Christian played suffocating defense on Bobcat’s star point guard Keyunta Watkins. Christian also scored five.
Tonight at 7:30, the Bearcats will face their toughest opponent since the winning streak began. The Azle Hornets are undefeated in district. A Bearcat win will most likely clinch the playoffs for the Bearcats.
