Update 89 includes a variety of issues, with a key focus on the reorganization of the E Section of the manual, addressing instruction. Enclosed to assist your review of the revisions to local policy are Vantage Points – A Board Member’s Guide to Update 89, Explanatory Notes, and a copy of the revised local policies.
B.
Consider revisions to Board Policy EHBB (Local) on first reading. Revisions to Board Policy EHBB (Local) will change the number of assessment opportunities for identifying gifted and talented students from once each semester to once each year in grades 1-6. The second change allows reassessment every
two years instead of after one year in elementary grades (K-6).
C.
Consider approval of 2010-2011 budget amendments #5. Sections 44.002 through 44.006 of the Texas Education Code establish the legal basis for adopted budgets. A school district must amend the official budget before exceeding a functional expenditure category in the adopted budget. The annual financial and compliance report will reflect the amended budget amounts. The actual amendments for consideration will be provided at the Board Meeting.
D.
Consider the addition of a new course: Pre-Advanced Placement Mathematics for Grade 6 Students. The addition of this course will allow grade six students to begin work in pre-advanced placement studies in mathematics.
E.
Consider the calendar for 2011-2012 Budget Development and Adoption Process. The District’s budget process begins in February. Typically, during the first month of planning, budget allocations are developed for each campus and department. However, due to the unknown financial impact that will come out of the Legislative Session, the 2011-2012 budget calendar has been modified.
F.
Consider an Order and Notice of Trustee Election Places 6 & 7 to take place on May 14, 2011. The Board must approve an order and notice of Trustee Election to allow filing for places on the ballot at least sixty-one days prior to the election. The appropriate Order and Notice will be posted as required by law with the election being conducted at the Parker County Courthouse Annex upon approval of a contract with Parker County Elections Administration.
G.
Consider a contract with the Parker County Elections Administration for the May 14, 2011 Trustee Election. The Weatherford ISD will hold a Trustee Election for Places 6 and 7 to be held Saturday, May 14, 2011. As a result, Weatherford Independent School District will be entering into a contractual agreement with the City of Weatherford and the Parker County Elections Administration for the May 14, 2011 Trustee election. The DRAFT contract and estimate of costs are included for Board review.
H.
Closed Session per Texas Government Code.
I.
Reconvene from Closed Session for action relative to items considered during Closed Session.
