Message to Aledo Lion's Youth Basketball....Support our Bearcats and Ladycats

January 25, 2011 by Steve Keck

Aledo Lion’s Youth has over 700 Players

We get a lot of communication from our league because the Aledo Youth Basketball League has a lot of coordinating to do with Aledo ISD. The school district and our league directors have been extremely cooperative in getting us gym time, assisting the program, and working on developing players who will eventually be playing at Aledo High School.

There is absolutely no reason our basketball programs can’t reach the same level of excellence of our football team, volleyball team, and soccer teams. One of my jobs is writing sports for The Community News. Our Ladycats are now 23-2 and ranked # 4 in the state.

Aledo varsity teams are away for two games. The next home game is not until Friday, January 28th. The Ladycats begin at 6:00 and the boys begin at 7:30.

Other Home Games:
2/1 vs. Byron Nelson
2/8 vs. Azle
2/15 vs. Brewer

I think the league gave every player an “Aledo Basketball Shirt”. Please be at the game wearing your shirt

Please Consider This:

•The absolutely best way for our young players to learn the game is through watching older skilled players.
•As coaches, we have an opportunity to interact with our teams and show them some of the things we are teaching them in action.
•Our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators at AISD deserve our support.
•We could fill up both sides of the high school gym if the parents and players in our league would show up for the games.

Hopefully, coming from a volunteer coach, this will help. It is really sad to see the lack of support for our basketball programs. Interestingly, the most consistent group of fans at the games is the Bearcat varsity football players. Coach Buchanan is always there also.

Rather than taking up space in the newspaper writing about something that will taste like burnt toast, I’m writing this to the coaches, parents, and players in the Aledo Youth Basketball League. We are the Aledo Bearcat basketball community. How many Pee Wee football players do you think miss an Aledo Bearcat home football game?
