Anita Bond to be honored
Anita Bond was the East Parker County Library’s first director in 1994. On May 21 she will receive the Never Give Up Award for outstanding work of an individual in support of EPC Library.
The award will be presented at the library’s eighth annual Garden Party.
Anita Bond's name helped inspire this year’s theme, MISSION POSSIBLE! Anita has helped make many things possible at the library during her long association with the organization. The line, “Bond….Anita Bond” got party organizers thinking in spy mode and it grew from there.
During the years she served as librarian, the library has grown from a few shelves of books to more than 22,000 volumes; the library moved from Front Street to its present location; computers replaced card catalogues and organized office routines. Currently the North Texas Library Association makes even more services and books available to library patrons.
Anita is always handy with book recommendations. She particularly enjoys the “Warrior” series by Erin Hunter and challenges adult readers to identify the cat’s personalities with people they may know. Anita promises that the detective Hamish Macbeth will take you out of your world and into another place.
Whether dealing with Board of the Trustees’ sometime colorful characters, volunteers, or patrons, Anita represents the library well. With more than 17 years of service as a volunteer, director, and part-time employee, Anita is a welcoming, knowledgeable presence at the East Parker County Library.
The Library invites Anita’s friends, neighbors, community leaders and local businesses to turn out in support of this helpful staffer and the library she supports and help make MISSION POSSIBLE succeed.
Tickets to the garden party are $15 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under or $35 per family. Graduating high school seniors can attend for free. All proceeds from the event go to the library. Fliers will be in issues of The Community News, or stop by the Library to purchase tickets to the Garden Party.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available; call Jan Orr-Harter at 817-291-3952.
