Johnathan Gray took the Aledo Bearcats' opening handoff for a 66 yard touchdown run, and the extra point gave Aledo a 7-0 lead with 19 seconds ticked off the clock.
Birdville responded with a ten play drive from their own 20, settling for a 30-yard field goal with 7:15 left in the first quarter.
The following possessions ended in interceptions, the first being a Birdville snag of a Clay Wooten pass in the Aledo end zone.
Aledo's Rylan Riney returned the favor, stealing a Birdville shot at the Aledo 25. Two plays later, Gray again broke open a big play, swimming upstream through Birdville defenders for a 75 yard touchdown run to make the score 13-3 (extra point no good). The score stood at 13-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The next score came with 4:27 left in the first half. Michael Mann received a pass from Matthew Bishop on a play that started at the Birdville 49. Mann Broke at least three tackles en route to a 37-yard gain to the Birdville 13. Two plays later Johnathan Gray was once again crossing the end zone, this time from the 8-yard line. the extra point gave Aledo a 20-3 cushion.
On the ensuing drive Birdville found the end zone on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 1:43 left in the half to bring the score to 20-10.
Gray picked up where he left off early in the third quarter, with a 72 yard run from scrimmage. The extra point again failed, keeping Aledo's lead at 26-10.
Gray scored his fifth touchdown of the game with 6:33 left in the third quarter on a four-yard run. The extra point made the score 33-10.
Gray scored yet another TD with about four minutes left in the third quarter, as Aledo started running away with the game, 40-10.
Birdville came back and scored with about seven minutes left finalizing the game with a 40-17 score. The win gave Aledo the district championship.
