AHS Ladycats vs. Springtown at Aledo;
Varsity, 6:30 p.m.
JV, 5 p.m.
9th, 5 p.m.
Paced by a match-high nine kills from middle hitter Breana Sharratt and 10 digs by libero Taylor Brown, the state-ranked No. 10 Aledo Ladycats clinched the outright District 5-4A title with a convincing 25-11, 25-9, 25-13 victory over Keller Timber Creek Tuesday night at Timber Creek.
The win raises the Ladycats overall record to 30-8 and 12-0 in district play. Aledo continues district action at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Azle. A win would give Ladycats head coach Kathy Goings her 400th career victory.
Although the Ladycats clinched the district title, the team walked off the floor in unemotional fashion. Senior captain Jordan Jacobs explained why.
"We have set a goal to be undefeated in district," the two-time all-district middle said. "We will not celebrate unless we beat Azle and Springtown (in the district final Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Aledo) to go undefeated in district."
Jacobs finished with seven kills from the middle, with outside hitter Rachel Lincoln adding six. Outside hitter Christa Daniel finished with seven digs, with Jacobs adding six.
Sophomore setter Mallory Powell finished with a match-high 29 assists to go along with a match-high four aces.
