Paced by a combined 23 kills from middle hitters Breana Sharratt and Jordan Jacobs, the state-ranked No. 10 Aledo Ladycats cruised past Brewer, 25-12, 25-8, 25-9, Tuesday night in District 5-4A volleyball action at the AHS gym.
The win raises the Ladycats district mark to 10-0 and 28-8 overall. Aledo will continue 5-4A play at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at home against Boswell.
Sharratt led all hitters with 14 kills, with Jacobs adding nine to go along with a match-high four blocks. Outside hitter Christa Daniel added seven stoppers.
Defensively, libero Taylor Brown led the Ladycats with 13 digs, while Daniel added 10. Setter Mallory Powell finished with a match-high 29 assists.
Aledo led the entire match for all but three rallies. Sharratt closed out the opener with a kill, and the Ladycats clinched the second game with a stopper from outside hitter Lindsey Baird.
In game three, Jacobs went on a five-point run from the service line to give Aledo a 13-5 lead. Powell followed two rallies later with a six-point run from the line as AHS increased its lead to 20-6.
With a 21-9 lead, the Ladycats scored the next four points - courtesy of a kill by outside hitter Rachel Lincoln, an ace by Brown, a block by Jacobs and a Brewer return error - to clinch the match.
