Town hall to focus on public education in Texas

July 24, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Doss Heritage and Culture Center, 1400 Texas Drive
Weatherford, TX 76086 United States
+ Google Map

The Parker County Democratic Party will sponsor a town hall on public education from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24 at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center, 1400 Texas Drive in Weatherford.
The state of public education affects everyone in Texas: young people, parents and teachers, taxpayers, employers, and anyone who lives in our state and wants to share in its benefits. But the issues affecting public schools are complex.
In a town hall format, a panel of four candidates will discuss topics such as school finance and standardized testing and take questions from the audience. The forum is open to all.
Panelists will be CPA and financial professional Mike Collier, candidate for lieutenant governor; Vanessa Adia, science teacher and department chairman at Benbrook Middle School, candidate for U.S. Congress from District 12; Dr. Carla Morton, neuropsychologist who works with children with developmental disorders, candidate for the State Board of Education District 11; and Kevin Lopez, a Bridgeport city councilman and Arlington firefighter who is running for State Senate District 30.
Area educators are especially invited, said Kay Parr, Parker County’s Democratic chair, as well as anyone “concerned about rising taxes and problems faced by our teachers and public schools.”
For more information, call 817-262-3067.
