Walsh Elementary Ribbon Cutting and Campus Dedication
August 25, 2017 @ 10:00 am
Mary D. and F. Howard Walsh Elementary School will officially open its doors at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25 with a community ribbon cutting and campus dedication at 14113 Walsh Avenue in the new Walsh Development. Members of the community are invited to attend.
The event will include speakers from Aledo ISD, the Walsh family and other special guests from the surrounding communities. The Aledo High School band is also scheduled to perform.
“This marks a historic day for Aledo ISD and an exciting opening of a campus that will positively impact students for the next 50 years,” said Dr. Derek Citty, Aledo ISD Superintendent. “Our community has shown a commitment to our students and the growth in Aledo ISD.”
The two-story campus features abundant natural light to reduce energy use and improve student and staff comfort. Technology amenities include a robust wireless network and movable touch screen panels.
In addition, the 100,000 square foot campus has learning spaces featuring marker walls and learning hubs. The campus was built on 14 acres donated by the Walsh family.
“Our ribbon cutting and dedication will be an exciting day for the Walsh students, families and Aledo ISD,” said Sheri Coll, Walsh Elementary Principal. “Many hands and great thinking have gone into making this school a reality. We look forward to providing excellence in the classroom every day and molding students for many years to come.”
Walsh classroom features include flexible, shared areas with movable work tables and direct connections to the exterior to allow for science, art and technology exploration.
The groundbreaking for Walsh Elementary took place Sept. 7, 2016. Fort Worth-based VLK Architects designed the campus, which serves kindergarten through fifth grades. The funding of the school was part of a $53.2 million bond package passed in 2015.
Walsh, which is the only Aledo ISD campus in the Fort Worth city limits, is the district’s fifth elementary and the first addition at this level since McCall opened in 2008. It is also the newest campus in Aledo ISD since the Daniel Ninth Grade Campus opened in 2010.
Walsh will host a ribbon-cutting celebration for its students, parents, and staff on the first day of school at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28.
