Shaw-Kemp Open House

The 38th annual Shaw-Kemp Open House is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, April 21. The Shaw-Kemp Ranch is located at 220 Kemp Road, about half-way between Weatherford and Granbury on Hwy. 51.
Mary Kemp and a host of family, friends, and volunteers will be on hand to welcome visitors to this annual event that celebrates history, bluebonnets, and a walk back in time.
The first building to be restored was the Shaw-Kemp Log Cabin, built in 1856 by Thomas Jefferson Shaw and his wife, Louisa Ann Long Shaw. Thanks to the hard work by the Kemp family, the cabin received a Texas Historical Marker in 1982. Other restored buildings on the ranch include the 1918 Shaw-Kemp Ranch House, the 1909 DeBeauford-Kemp House, the Mt. Nebo School and Church, the Mt. Nebo Grocery Store and Post Office, the Mt. Nebo Valley Barber Shop and Bath House, the Nebo Sheriff’s Office, the 1897 Combs Log Cabin, and the Nebo Valley Bank.Visitors are encouraged to bring their camera, snack foods, and cold drinks. No alcohol is allowed.
