A lemonade stand set up in front of Aledo Athletic Club Friday, Aug. 29 will raise funds for the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation.
The stand will open at 2:30 p.m. at 601 S. FM 1187 in the parking lot.
It is being hosted by David and Jennifer Starkey of Aledo, whose daughter Ella, a student at Vandagriff Elementary, was born with the syndrome.
There are only about 1,000 cases known worldwide. The syndrome is the result of a chromosome deficiency that affects children differently.
It is the mission of the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation to improve the quality of life of people affected by PMS worldwide by providing family support, accelerating research and raising awareness, according to its website.
