Children's production on stage

July 10, 2014 by Phil Major

Event Date:
Sat, 07/26/2014 - 7:30pm

Theatre Off the Square in Weatherford presents its annual children’s production, “Miss Nelson is Missing,” adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, based on the book by Harry Allard and James Marshall. The play is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. This production, in conjunction with Theatre Off The Square’s Summer Children’s Theatre Camp, is directed by Hank Minor, with Wally Jones, Katie Arthurs, and Katie Huitt as assistant directors. Laurie Jones and Jaclyn Justice serve as camp directors. This show, along with two other short stories, begins Friday, July 18 and runs two weekends through July 27.
Miss Nelson can't control her crazy classroom because she's just too nice. But when she disappears, her replacement is the hard-as-nails, detention-loving, recess-canceling, homework-overloading substitute teacher Viola Swamp! With the Big Test approaching, the kids suddenly realize how much they miss Miss Nelson and they'll do anything - including hiring a private eye - to solve the mystery of her disappearance and bring her back. (Playscripts, Inc.)
Members of the cast are the 30 plus kids who are attending the theatre’s 2-week camp. Helpers during the camp, who also serve as the crew for the production, are members of several high school and college theater departments. Other camp helpers include many adults who are actors, parents, or guest speakers.
Bring family: children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids to a delightful evening or afternoon of fun beginning Friday, July 18, and running through Sunday, July 27. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (different from the usual time of 8 p.m.) and Sunday at 2 p.m. Theatre Off The Square, the only live theatre in Weatherford, is located at 114 North Denton Street.
Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for seniors (60+), students, and children 13 and up. Children 12 and under are $9 for this production only. Matinee tickets are $9. for children 12 and under and all other tickets are $11 with no other discounts applying. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $12 at Weatherford Chamber of Commerce. Reserved seating is available and recommended by calling 817-341-8687. Seats can be chosen and tickets purchased to any performance online.
