CASA will soon offer a Grief Recovery for Children training for their volunteer advocates and community members. This training is based on the Grief Recovery Method and will be utilizing the book “When Children Grieve”. The training will be conducted by Barb Tucker, CASA – Hope for Children Executive Director, who is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist and has been working with foster children for over 25 years.
All children experience grief, but children in foster care, especially need adults in their lives who understand how to help them deal with their many losses.
Simply defined, grief is the normal and natural reaction to significant emotional loss of any kind. Foster children are removed from everything they are familiar with and placed in a home that may be far from their family, neighborhood, school and friends. Although there is no doubt these children were removed from their family for many valid reasons, children will be confused and hurt. When you remove a child from all that they are familiar with and place them in a totally strange environment it is only natural to grieve the loss of their family.
An informational meeting about the training will be from 6- 7 p.m. Monday, June 16 at the CASA – Hope for Children office, 701 Palo Pinto St., Suite 701F, Weatherford. The Grief Recovery for Children class will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 23, also at the CASA office. For more information, call 817-599-6224.
