Doss Heritage Fall Festival

November 13, 2013 by Jennifer Retter

Event Date:
Sat, 11/16/2013 - 1:30pm - 3:30pm

Doss Center Fall Festival
The first Doss Heritage and Culture Center Fall Festival will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov.16, to celebrate cooler weather and the changing of the seasons. The event will feature arts and crafts, local storytellers and Native American-inspired games. Admission to the museum is free after a $5 arts and crafts fee payment.

"Our Fall Festival is not only a way to spend quality time with your family but it's a learning experience. The crafts, games and stories are inspired by the Native American tribes who lived in the area centuries ago. The festival also gives families a chance to explore our wonderful Texas history museum and learn about the rich history that surrounds the Doss Heritage and Culture Center," said Collette Annillo, Education and Programs Coordinator at the Doss Center.

Exhibits at the Doss Center during the event will include the Mary Martin Centennial Exhibition and the Trail Drivers Exhibition.
The Mary Martin Centennial Exhibition runs from Nov. 15 through January 2014. Mary Martin, Weatherford’s own favorite daughter, star of stage and screen, is celebrated on what would have been her 100thbirthday. See the gallery overflowing with artifacts and letters in her own hand.

The Trail Drivers Exhibition is open through May 2014. Learn about the famous and infamous cowboys who made Texas a name known through the country from the end of the Civil War to the turn of the century.

The Doss Heritage and Culture Center is located at 1400 Texas Drive in Weatherford and the phone number is 817-599-6168. For more information on current exhibits and activities, visit the museum’s Facebook page or website, www.dosscenter.org. The mission of the James and Dorothy Doss Heritage and Culture Center is to collect, preserve and exhibit the heritage of Parker County and Texas.
