Painting Workshop with Jan Bateman

July 31, 2013 by Randy Keck

Event Date:
Fri, 08/16/2013 - 6:30pm

The Weatherford Art Association will present a painting workshop with artist Jan Bateman for beginner and intermediate painters wanting more knowledge on the use of color and color theory. Classes will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 17.

Participants will use oil paints on canvas or paper (their choice). Ms. Bateman will discuss and demonstrate the use of the color wheel to determine color choices in a painting and will discuss color theory. Participants are to bring their own supplies which include the following: a color wheel, oil paints (cadmium red, alizarin crimson, phthalo blue, ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow med., hansa yellow light, lemon yellow, titanium white, ivory black, burnt umber and burnt sienna), assorted brushes, paper towels and a trash bag, odorless turpentine, containers for wash out, soft drawing pencils or charcoal, sketch pad for initial composition and a reference photo.

Jan Bateman, a resident of Weatherford, started her art career at Oklahoma State University, Texas Woman’s University and Weatherford College. Her successful 25-year career as a commercial artist and fashion illustrator lends confidence to her control of design and technique. She credits perfecting her skills with private lessons from some of the nation’s most well known artists, including Rod Riddick, Neil Boyle, Jim Wilcox, Louis Escobedo, Zhang Wen Zin, and renowned portrait painters Bettina Steinke and Daniel Green.

Jan was honored by the “Pastel Society of America” with a scholarship to the “Art Students League of New York,” and has received many other awards for her pastel and portrait work.
The workshop will cost $100 for the two-day, 10-hour class. Classes will be held at the Firehouse Gallery at 119 Palo Pinto in Weatherford. Deadline for registration is August 13. In the event the workshop is canceled, all monies will be returned. Make all payments (cash or checks) to WAA, or use a credit card through Pay Pal at www.weatherfordart.com.
