In the Sept. 27 issue of The Community News, it was reported that the 1187 traffic switch would occur on Oct 2. Unfortunately, after the paper went to press, we received the following update.
We regret any confusion.
TxDOT and McMahon Construction will delay the scheduled traffic switch on FM 1187 from the night of Wednesday, Oct. 2 to Monday night on Oct. 7, beginning at 8 p.m. due to Aledo High School’s homecoming game on Oct. 4.
The traffic switch on Oct. 7 will move all FM 1187 traffic onto the newly built east side of FM 1187 to allow construction crews to build the new FM 1187 south bound lanes. This plan is expected to create some traffic backups in the area of the Bailey Ranch Road intersection.
Work on the south bound lanes will result in the closing of access to Bankhead Highway off of FM 1187. All traffic wishing to turn onto Bankhead Highway will be detoured to Bailey Ranch Road and then onto Champion’s Drive, which will allow for access to Bankhead Highway. Southbound traffic on FM 1187 wishing to turn right onto Bailey Ranch Road will be able to do so, but without a designated right turn lane at the FM 1187 and Bailey Ranch Road intersection. Northbound traffic on FM 1187 will have a dedicated left turn lane onto Bailey Ranch Road.
In addition, during the construction of the south bound lanes of FM 1187, there will be times when access to Robert, James, John and Jearl streets will be limited. Two of the four streets will always be accessible from FM 1187. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra time when traveling through this area. Construction of FM 1187is expected to be completed in late summer or early fall of 2014.
