Spring fooball begins for two-time defending state champion Bearcats

Aledo's Cheyenne Knight wins girls' 5A championship; Ladycats finish second, Bearcats 12th at state golf tournament

The Aledo Ladycats golf team is presented with their trophy for finishing in second place Tuesday at the Class 5A state golf tournament near Bastrop. The second-place finish was the highest ever for an Aledo girls golf team at the state tournament. Also, Cheyenne Knight, far left, won the individual state championship. Aledo senior Cheyenne Knight shot a one-over-par 73 on Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 143 to win the girls' Class 5A individual championship by one stroke over Frisco Wakeland's Brielle Ward.

Aledo pitcher Hale fires no hitter to lead Bearcats to 8-0 win

Aledo senior Isaac Hale threw his first-ever high school no hitter to lead the Bearcats to an 8-0 victory over Burleson Saturday night in a District 8-5A contest at the AHS baseball field.

The win raises the Bearcats' district record to 9-3 and sets up a key league match up Tuesday at Granbury.

Hale allowed just three base runners - on a pair of walks and an error - and retired the side in order in five of seven innings, including the seventh where he recorded two of his nine stikeouts.

Craine throws one hitter to lead Ladycats to 10-0 win over Cleburne as Aledo completes undefeated district season

Aledo senior Riley Sartain's walk-off single in the bottom of the fifth inning was the final score that lifted the state-ranked No. 1 Ladycats to a 10-0 victory over Cleburne Saturday afternoon in the District 8-5A finale on Senior Day at the AHS softball field.

The win - in a game called by the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning - gives the Ladycats a 14-0 district mark.

The Ladycats will advance to the Class 5A playoffs and face Trimble Tech, the fourth-place team from District 7-5A.

Aledo qualifies 21 athletes to regional track meet

Twenty-one Aledo High School track athletes, including four relay teams, qualified for the regional track meet Thursday night at the District 7-5A/8-5A area meet at Owl Stadium in Joshua.

The top four finishers in each event at the area meet advance to the Class 5A, Region I meet in Lubbock.

The Ladycats 400-meter relay team of Danielle Trought, Brittney Trought, Tysley Valencia and Kia Jordan finished in first place, while the AHS ladies 800-meter relay team of Danielle Trought, Valencia, Peyton Lambert and Jordan placed second.

Although they placed second, the Bearcats' 1,600-meter relay team of Luke Bishop, Isaiah Mallory, Noah Collins and Ryan Heiss set a school record with a time of 3:24.6.

Aledo tracksters will complete area meet on Thursday

Heiss and several other AHS athletes will compete on Thursday on the final day of the area meet in hopes of qualifying for the regional meet. The second day of the area meet will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, with running finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. The top four finishers in each event will advance to the regional meet in Lubbock.

Aledo High School track athletes will compete Thursday on the final day of a Class 5A, Region I area track meet at Joshua High School with running finals capping off the two-day meet.

Adkins throws no hitter in Ladycats' 13-0 victory over Granbury; Bearcats fall to Crowley

Aledo senior pitcher Ashton Adkins, in her first district start in the circle, fired a no hitter to lead the Ladycats to a 13-0 victory over the Granbury Lady Pirates Tuesday night in a district contest at Granbury.

The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to a sparkling 13-0, while Granbury falls to 3-10.

Adkins, normally the starting right fielder, pitched to the minimum 15 batters in a game stopped after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

She allowed just one base runner - on an error - but that runner was put out on a double play when shortstop Allie Arneson fielded a ground ball, stepped on the second base bag and threw to first base to complete a double play.

Adkins finished with two strikeouts.

Craine fires one hitter in Ladycats' 10-0 win; Bearcats blow out Everman, 12-0

Aledo senior pitcher Lauren Craine allowed one hit while striking out seven with no walks, and junior Kadyn Kirkpatrick went four for four at the plate to lead the state-ranked No. 1 Ladycats to a 10-0 victory over Burleson Tuesday night in a District 8-5A game at the AHS softball field.

The game was called on the 10-run mercy rule after Kirkpatrick scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kirkpatrick nearly hit for the cycle as she smashed a double, triple and a pair of singles.

The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 12-0. Aledo will continue district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday (April 21) at Granbury.

Allie Arneson recorded three hits, including two doubles, and Alli Ramsey finished with a pair of base hits.

Bearcats 12, Everman 0

Bearcats win 8-5A track meet; Ladycats second as many from both teams qualify for area meet

The Aledo Bearcats earned gold medals in two relays on their way to capturing the boys’ District 8-5A Track and Field Meet Thursday at Burleson High School.

The Ladycats took a gold and a silver in relays on their way to a second-place overall finish.

Both teams qualified many athletes for next week’s area track meet.

The top four finishers in each event at the district meet qualify for the area meet.

The top four finishers in each event at the area meet advance to the regional meet.

The area meet will be Wednesday and Thursday, April 22-23, at Joshua High School.

Bearcats to join Ladycats at 5A state golf tournament

Shooting a second-round team score of 316, the Aledo Bearcats finished with a 36-hole total of 645 which was good enough - by a single stroke - to capture third place Thursday afternoon at the boys' Class 5A, Region I golf tournament and seal the final state-qualifying spot.

The Bearcats will join the regional-champion Ladycats at the 5A state golf tournament, which will be played April 27-28 in Bastrop.

Sam Shryoc (80-76) and Parker Scaling (77-81)each shot 156 to lead the 'Cats.

Other Bearcats totals include Steven Shurtz with a 157 (80-77), Matt James with a 169 (87-82) and Andrew Lane with a 172 (82-90).
