Ladycats fall just short in 43-40 loss to Cleburne

December 16, 2014 by Tony Eierdam

In an ending marred in controversy, Cleburne intercepted an Aledo in bounds pass with two seconds left to play and the Lady Jackets held on to defeat the Ladycats, 43-40, Tuesday night in a District 8-5A game at the AHS gym.

The loss drops the Ladycats to 1-1 in district play while Cleburne raised its 8-5A mark to 2-0.

Aledo led early in the opening quarter, but Cleburne came back with a 12-2 run in the second period to take a commanding 26-12 lead at the half.

But the Ladycats came out on fire to begin the third quarter as Cameron Huddleston and Kara Williams each sank three-point buckets to cut the Cleburne lead to 26-18.

No. 1 Bearcats vs. JT: Must see football

December 11, 2014 by Tony Eierdam

As I See It
By Tony Eierdam

It is Class 5A’s version of Southlake Carroll vs. Trinity.

The Class 5A No. 1-ranked Aledo Bearcats have advanced to the state semifinals for the fifth time in the last six years, but on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite they will face arguably their toughest opponent in that time span in the Tyler John Tyler Lions, the “bullies” of East Texas.

Of course, I jest about using the word bullies, and in the time I spent in East Texas covering sports JT was always good, and at the same time classy and sportsmanlike.

But make no mistake: They have always been feared, and this year is no exception.
