The state-ranked No. 1 Aledo Ladycats can clinch the District 8-5A softball championship today against Crowley with the first pitch set for 5:30 p.m. at Crowley High School.
While recent rains did not wash out the softball game, it did postpone today's scheduled Aledo Bearcats baseball game at Burleson Centennial.
The Bearcats/Spartans baseball game will be made up at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Centennial High School.
Senior Mary Myers ignited a six-run fifth inning with a lead-off, line-shot double that began a procession of seven straight hits to break open a close game as state-ranked No. 1 Aledo cruised past Everman, 15-2, Friday night in a District 8-5A softball game at Everman.
The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 10-0. The Ladycats can clinch the district championship with a win Tuesday at Crowley.
Lauren Craine (10-0) earned the win in the circle, allowing only one earned run on three hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in seven innings.
Aledo led just 3-2 when Myers stepped to the plate and delivered a double over the left fielder's head.
Both the Aledo High School Ladycats and Bearcats golf teams captured District 8-5A championships after the final round of their respective tournaments Wednesday at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose.
The Bearcats shot a 36-hole total of 599 (299-300) to clip Cleburne by a stroke, while the Ladycats shot a two-day total of 576 (290-286) to win the tournament over second-place Joshua (708) by a whopping 132 strokes.
Defending state champion Cheyenne Knight (63-65-128) of Aledo won the individual girls' championship with teammate Mary Katherine Ingram finishing third overall.
The Bearcats' top medalist, Sam Shryoc, shot a 141 (72-69) to place third overall in the boys' tournament.
Former Aledo Ladycats state-championship and All-American pitcher Whitney Canion, also a two-time all-American at Baylor, is preparing to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Aledo/Centennial softball game Tuesday night at the AHS softball field. The Ladycats were recognizing Canion, who 10 days ago had her No. 11 jersey retired at Baylor University. She is the first former Aledo High School athlete to have a number retired at a major university.

Aledo had two goals disallowed in the first half on offsides calls.
Facing possibly their first loss of the season, the state-ranked No. 1 Aledo Ladycats were down to their last strike Friday night in a key District 8-5A softball game at Joshua.
Host Joshua led 1-0 in the top of the seventh inning, and the Ladycats had a runner on base with two outs with Riley Sartain at the plate with a two-strike count.
With Joshua one strike away from the upset, Sartain drove the next pitch over the wall for a two-run home run that also drove home Mary Myers as Aledo took their first lead of the contest, 2-1.
Sartain’s blast held up as pitcher Lauren Craine retired the Lady Owls in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
The win raises the Ladycats district mark to 8-0, while Joshua drops to 6-2.

Coming off a 5-1 victory last week over Western Hills in the opening round of the Class 5A soccer playoffs, the Aledo Ladycats will hope to continue their playoff run when they face the Birdville Lady Hawks on Friday, April 3 in a rare home playoff match.
Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.

A scout for the Carolina Panthers works out several Tarleton State University and Midwestern State University football players Wednesday morning at the Aledo High School indoor facility. TSU invited Midwestern players to the workout session. TSU decided to hold its pro day in Aledo as many NFL scouts are in the area this week for pro days on the campuses of TCU and SMU. Scouts from the Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Rams and other NFL teams were working out players at the facility.
