Bearcats open 5A baseball playoffs Thursday against Fort Worth Southwest

The Class 5A baseball playoffs begin Thursday when the defending state-champion Aledo Bearcats face Fort Worth Southwest in a one-game, bi-district playoff.

The first pitch will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Fort Worth Arlington Heights baseball field.

The Bearcats (14-8) are the second-place team from District 8-5A and Southwest (12-11) is the third-place team from District 7-5A.

Tickets at the gate are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The winner of the game will advance to the area round and face the winner of the Wichita Falls Rider/Fort Worth Poly bi-district playoff series.

The Bearcats posted a 10-4 District 8-5A record and landed in a second-place tie with Burleson Centennial.

Seven Aledo athletes qualify for state track meet

Aledo High School qualified a relay team and six other athletes in individual events to the Class 5A state track meet Friday and Saturday at the Region I meet in Lubbock.

The top two finishers in relays and individual events automatically qualify for the state meet.

Ladycats senior Brittney Trought won both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, and she joined twin sister Danielle Trought, Tysley Valencia and Kia Jordan to win the girls’ 4x100 relay.

Danielle Trought (100-meter hurdles) and Jordan (100-meter dash) each also qualified for the state meet with second-place finishes.

Aledo qualified three athletes in field events. Senior Blake Scott – the Fort Worth area pole vault leader – captured first place, while Ladycats pole vaulter Mackenzie Lyon placed second.

Talley tosses two-hitter as Bearcats blank Centennial, 6-0, Saturday in second-place tiebreaker game

Although he has not started a District 8-5A game and has been used only in middle-innings relief during league action, Aledo senior left-handed, sidearm pitcher Coby Talley was handed the ball today and asked to go as many innings on the mound as he could in a second-place tiebreaker game against Burleson Centennial.

Both teams came into Saturday's contest at neutral-site Joshua High School with identical 10-4 district records, and since the teams split a pair of games during regular 8-5A play, a third game was necessary to determine second place in the district.

Craine throws no-hitter as No. 1 Ladycats advance in playoffs; Bearcats fall to Cleburne, will play Saturday for second place

Aledo pitcher Lauren Craine, shown in the first inning of the Ladycats' 19-0 win over Trimble Tech in a bi-district playoff game at Aledo, threw her first no-hitter of the season while striking out seven Lady Bulldogs batters to earn the win.

Aledo senior Lauren Craine threw her first no-hitter of 2015 to lead the state-ranked No. 1 Ladycats to a 19-0 victory over Fort Worth Trimble Tech Friday night in a Class 5A bi-district playoff game at Aledo.

The Ladycats will advance to the area round and face Brewer. Game times, location and dates for the best-of-three series have yet to be determined.

Home cooking: Ladycats open playoffs at home against Trimble Tech; Bearcats close district play at home against Cleburne

The Ladycats will open the 2015 playoffs at home at 7 p.m. today against Trimble Tech. Next door, at 7:30 p.m., the Bearcats baseball team will host Cleburne in the district finale.

Both the state-ranked No. 1 Aledo Ladcyats softball team and the Aledo Bearcats baseball team will play at home today, with the ladies beginning what hopes to be a long playoff run and the Bearcats concluding District 8-5A play.

The No. 1 Ladycats, champions of District 8-5A, will face the fourth-place team from District 7-5A, the Trimble Tech Lady Bulldogs, in a one-game bi-district playoff.

Bearcats clinch playoff spot with win at Granbury

Aledo catcher Connor Duer drove in four runs and starting hurler Cody Bradford pitched six solid innings as the pair led the Bearcats to a 5-1 victory over Granbury in a District 8-5A game Wednesday night at Granbury.

The win raises the Bearcats' 8-5A mark to 10-3 and clinches a playoff spot.

Aledo will conclude district play at 7:30 p.m. Friday (May 1) at home against first-place Cleburne on Senior Night.

Duer drove in the Bearcats' first run in the first inning - driving in Wade Rayburn who reached on a double - but he saved his biggest hit for the seventh inning.

With the score deadlocked at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, the Bearcats loaded the bases courtesy of a base hit, walk and Granbury error.

Spring fooball begins for two-time defending state champion Bearcats

Aledo's Cheyenne Knight wins girls' 5A championship; Ladycats finish second, Bearcats 12th at state golf tournament

The second-place finish was the highest ever for an Aledo girls golf team at the state tournament. Also, Cheyenne Knight, far left, won the individual state championship. Aledo senior Cheyenne Knight shot a one-over-par 73 on Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 143 to win the girls' Class 5A individual championship by one stroke over Frisco Wakeland's Brielle Ward.

Aledo pitcher Hale fires no hitter to lead Bearcats to 8-0 win

Aledo senior Isaac Hale threw his first-ever high school no hitter to lead the Bearcats to an 8-0 victory over Burleson Saturday night in a District 8-5A contest at the AHS baseball field.

The win raises the Bearcats' district record to 9-3 and sets up a key league match up Tuesday at Granbury.

Hale allowed just three base runners - on a pair of walks and an error - and retired the side in order in five of seven innings, including the seventh where he recorded two of his nine stikeouts.

Craine throws one hitter to lead Ladycats to 10-0 win over Cleburne as Aledo completes undefeated district season

Aledo senior Riley Sartain's walk-off single in the bottom of the fifth inning was the final score that lifted the state-ranked No. 1 Ladycats to a 10-0 victory over Cleburne Saturday afternoon in the District 8-5A finale on Senior Day at the AHS softball field.

The win - in a game called by the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning - gives the Ladycats a 14-0 district mark.

The Ladycats will advance to the Class 5A playoffs and face Trimble Tech, the fourth-place team from District 7-5A.
