Meet The Ladycats, Bearcats Night will be Monday at AHS fields

The defending state-champion Aledo Ladycats softball team and the defending state-champion Aledo Bearcats baseball team will host "Meet The Ladycats and Bearcats Night" at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at the AHS softball and baseball fields.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the AHS Indoor Facility.

The players will autograph posters, and boys and girls are welcome to bring balls that can be signed.

Bearcats close out season with 49-33 victory over Cleburne

Aledo senior post Nicholas Losos (32) fires a jumper during the Bearcats' 49-33 win over Cleburne Tuesday night at the AHS gym in the District 8-5A finale. Losos finished with a game-high eight rebounds.

Aledo guard Braxton McCoy scored 16 points and Dawson Gates and Brevin McCoy each added nine to lead the Bearcats to a convincing 49-33 victory over Cleburne Tuesday night in the District 8-5A finale at the AHS gym.

The Bearcats closed the season on a two-game winning streak and a final district mark of 6-8.

The Aledo Bearcats will conclude the 2014-15 basketball season at 6:30 p.m. today at home against Cleburne in the boys' District 8-5A finale.

Prior to tip off, Aledo seniors Braxton McCoy (above photo), Luke Bishop, Dawson Gates, Hunter Cox and Nicholas Losos will be honored on Senior Night.

No. 7 Trimble Tech eliminates Ladycats, 64-47

State-ranked No. 7 Fort Worth Trimble Tech raced out to a 20-10 lead and never looked back as the Lady Bulldogs ran past the Aledo Ladycats, 64-47, Monday night in a girls' Class 5A, Region I bi-district playoff basketball game at Chisholm Trail High School.

With the win, Trimble Tech will advance to the area round.

With a 10-point cushion to begin the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs (32-4) stretched their lead to 37-25 at the half.

But to begin the third quarter Aledo went on a 9-5 run - paced by six points from senior post Rhylie Makawe and a three-pointer from sophomore guard Cameron Huddleston - to cut Tech's lead to 42-34 with 4:10 remaining in the period.

Tough task: Ladycats open 5A playoffs today against No. 7 Trimble Tech

The Aledo Ladycats will open the Class 5A playoffs against No. 7 Fort Worth Trimble Tech at 7 p.m. today at Chisholm Trail High School.

Tickets at the gate will be $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The Ladycats (15-17) come into the contest after falling in a third-place tiebreaker game on Friday, giving Aledo the fourth seed in the playoffs from 8-5A.

Bearcats slip past Granbury, 43-39

Cam Caldwell scored 13 points and Dawson Gates added 10 to lead the Aledo Bearcats to a 43-39 victory over the Granbury Pirates Friday night in a District 8-5A game at Granbury.

The win lifts the Bearcats to 5-8 in district play, while Granbury drops to 8-5.

The Bearcats will conclude the season at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at home against Cleburne on Senior Night.

Aledo led 13-9 after the opening period and 23-17 at the half.

The Bearcats outscored Granbury 13-11 in the third period to take a 36-28 lead into the fourth quarter.

Also scoring for the Bearcats were Michael McCay with seven points, Dakota Fischer with five, Braxton McCoy with four, and Luke Bishop and Bryson Power, each with two.

Cleburne outlasts Ladycats to claim third place in District 8-5A

Cleburne came back from a 10-point, first-half deficit with 33 second-half points as the Lady Jackets held off the Aledo Ladycats, 56-52, Friday night in a District 8-5A third-place tiebreaker game at Crowley High School.

With the loss, the Ladycats will be the fourth seed from 8-5A in the state playoffs.

The Ladycats will face state-ranked No. 7 Fort Worth Trimble Tech in the Class 5A, Region I bi-district playoffs at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16 at Chisholm Trail High School.

The Ladycats took a 26-16 lead in the second quarter after guard Kara Williams swished a three-point bucket.

But Cleburne went on a 7-0 run to end the half to cut the Ladycats' lead to 26-23 at the break.

Ladycats, Cleburne to fight for third place in District 8-5A with tiebreaker game today at Crowley

After 14 District 8-5A basketball games, the Aledo Ladycats and Cleburne Lady Jackets will need a 15th game to decide who will get the coveted third seed in the district for the upcoming Class 5A playoffs.

The Ladycats and Lady Jackets will square off at 6:30 p.m. today (Friday, Feb. 13) at Crowley High School. Aledo will be the designated “home” team.

Tickets at the gate are $4 for adults and $3 for students.

Both teams finished the district slate with 9-5 records and have qualified for post-season play as each district qualifies four teams for the state playoffs.

But this game is far more just about bragging rights of being the third-place team in the league as opposed to fourth place.

The Aledo Ladycats and Cleburne will square off to decide the third and fourth seeds in District 8-5A when they play a third-place tiebreaker game at 6:30 p.m. Friday (Feb. 13) at Crowley High School.

Both the Ladycats and Lady Jackets finished with 9-5 district records.

While both teams have qualified for the Class 5A girls' basketball playoffs, a tiebreaker game will be played and the winner will represent the third seed in the district and the loser will acquire the fourth seed.

Aledo will be the designated "home" team.
